10 Questions to Start You Thinking about Goals
Goals/New Year Resolutions? Why Bother A New Year a new start - How many times have you heard that?...... Every January probably. Most New Year Resolutions don't usually last, in fact any that make it to the end of January are quite rare....... We've all made them. Any of these sound familiar? I want to lose weight.....give up smoking......get a better job....and the one that makes fitness clubs the most money - I'll start going to the gym!!!!! And that's what most people do, they START going to the gym...but for how long? Who says you can only set Goals once a year? What would it be like to set goals that are achievable ?....and more to the point ones that you will stick with. Life is like a continuous journey, just when you think you have your route mapped out, up pops a diversion or you change your destination for somewhere else/better. Goals are much like that, they are not set in stone, they need to be constantly revised and updated. In fact most successful people have been found to be constantly reviewing and updating their goals. Why set Goals? "The reason most people don't get what they want, is they don't know what they want" - T.Harv Eker Goal achievement can be likened to the way a guided missile seeks out its target. Guided Missiles are constantly checking where their target is and making mid course corrections, they don't fly in a straight line, they zig zag until they are sure they are on the right course. That's all very interesting I hear you say, but how does that help me? Well, if you really want to achieve and stick with your goals be prepared to constantly be redefining and fine tuning them. How to Find Your Goals But first you need to identify them...... How would you like to find out what they are? 10 Simple Questions Simple just answer the 10 easy questions below. Ask yourself these questions in relation to each of the following areas of your life: • Health • Wealth • Career • Relationships There is only one rule....make the answers positive, what you do want rather than what you don't.... i.e. "I want to lose a 7lbs in weight", rather than "I don't want to be overweight" Here we go then.... 1. What do you want to achieve? 2. What is important about that achievement? 3. What has been stopping you from achieving your goal? 4. What would have to happen for you to achieve it? 5. What might be the first step? 6. And the next? 7. How will you know you have achieved this goal? 8. What will others see and hear when you have achieved this goal? 9. When are you going to start? 10. When do want to achieve this goal by? What To Do Now? "Where attention goes, energy flows, and results show" - T.Harv Eker Next, review your answers...Have your goals changed?...When you are happy with your goals in each area of your life write them down.... As we mentioned before nearly all successful people write down and review their goals regularly. In fact less than 3% of people ever bother to write out their goals.....Be one of those in the top 3% and write them down....give it a go and see what a difference it makes... Congratulations - by identifying and writing down your goals you have taken the first step towards achieving them.... A useful tip you may like to use... Write your top 3 goals on a 3x5 index card, it is then possible to take these goals with you during the day, and when you get a few spare minutes they can be reviewed. Remember though, if you only review your goals last thing at night and first thing in the morning, it will still make a big difference to how quickly you can achieve them.
